Caption Text is a short description that completes an image, graphic, poster, or table.
Caption Text Function
Caption text is useful for providing understanding or emphasis on the image given so that those who see it can know what our intent and purpose is to make the image.
Characteristics of caption text
- Short
- Free to use any tenses
- No name unless required
- Can contain motivation, stories, advice and others
Text Structure
Can be :
- Action/event/activity
- People/things that are involved
- Condition
Language Features
- Noun Phrase for a thing, a person, an animal, a location, etc. which is focused on, with or without a, the, this, tohes, my, their, etc.
- Verb Phrase dealing picture/photograph/graph/chart
- Spelling, punctuation, and handwriting
Tips To Write Captions :
- Do not begin with the words a, an or the
- Use present tense to describe action in photo
- Give readers information they cannot get from just looking at a photo
- A caption should complete the photo. The reader should not have to look at the story but should want to look at the story
- Write captions so they go from spesific to general or general to spesific
- Do not begin a caption with names
- When identifying members of a group, write "from left" not "form left to right"
- "Above" and "picture here" are unnecessary
- Captions should no repeat information contained in the lead
- Name people only if they are important to the picture
